It is possible that you are in New Zealand on an invalid permit.
When this occurs you become automatically an over-stayer. This is a serious offence and therefore should not be taken lightly and may result in removal from New Zealand with an automatic ban for 5 years.
Under certain conditions you may be able to lodge an application subject to section 35a of the Immigration Act 1987.
